One of our favorite success stories at adMarketplace is Norbert Tamas, our Chief Technology Officer who started as a junior engineer in 2008. Throughout his progressive tenure, he has invested his time and energy into growing adMarketplace’s tech stack and capabilities, and leveraged both internal and external resources to broaden his own skills as a leader within the company. What has adMarketplace been like for someone who has grown alongside our company over the past 14 years? Here’s what Norbert has to say:

1. Why did you choose to work at adMarketplace?

I joined adMarketplace at the early stage of my career. At that time I was mainly looking for challenging engineering projects, a place where I could practice my out-of-school programming skills, quickly learn new technologies, and grow my career. My knowledge in the Ad Tech industry was limited at the time, but I realized quickly the fast-paced, ever changing industry would allow me to grow professionally. I saw that adMarketplace was reinventing the search industry with their ad media solutions and I took the opportunity to continuously innovate with them.

2. You started off as a Junior Engineer and now you're the CTO. How was your journey?

My journey was full of learning and high-growth opportunities. Many times I was amazed how much impact as a Software Engineer I was able to have on not only the company, but also our publisher partners and users. I still remember my first project… I built a Traffic Quality component using Frontend Technologies. I released the component to production on a Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday morning I was shocked to see it was successfully protecting more than one hundred thousand users. That was the time when I learned how rewarding it is to design for scale and user experience.

3. What do you like the most about your current role at adMarketplace?

Each role in software engineering and technology has its unique challenges and opportunities. In my current role, the beauty is not only in building innovative search technology but also building and scaling highly-effective Engineering Teams that solve complex technical challenges through an environment of empowerment, ownership, trust, curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning.

4. Anything you know now that you wish you knew when you started?

It is important to enjoy what you are doing, take pride as a Software Engineer, and have a clear vision of how the role can be played at the highest level. Those factors are key to giving you motivation to push the boundaries and reach your goals faster.

5. What are you looking forward to this year?

Continuous learning. I always strive to better understand the foundational concepts of the new Web and Software Engineering Technologies that will shape and transform our lives in the next 5-10 years.

6. Where do you think the adtech space is headed?

When I started 14 years ago, the Web was still full of disruptive advertising using all user information without caring much about user privacy. I am happy to be part of the effort to move the adtech space towards a user centric focus. Especially with the adoption of Web 3.0, users will have greater autonomy over sharing their information.
